I started with a chunk of land that had a lot of growth. Many trees, bushes, and weeds, with very little grass or similar vegetation. I started cutting it with a good sized machete, which i sharpened well with a file. Put on some glasses, sneakers, full length jeans, and gloves. Here in Yucatan Mexico, and a lot of Mexico, there are scorpions, black widow spiders, both are poisonous, plus snakes living amoungst the many trees and rocks, so better safe than sorry. Save the sandals for leisure times. So after donning some protective gear, I started cutting...
Here is the land cleared, more or less, after some work with a machete. It ended up being a lot of small trees, so i removed many branches and twigs, which i stacked up into a few piles. Don't forget to mark the boundaries of your land. You can use branches pushed in the ground, with colored string, so that the boundaries are easily visible.i
When your land has been cleaned up a bit, walk into it, and start measuring, using landmarks, or other markers already there, on your land or at the neighboring lots. Measure the length by either pacing along the boundary, and using each step as roughly one meter length, or you can also use pre-measured string, which you can connect to sticks or poles you've placed in the ground.
After you have all your boindaries, you can place poles in the ground at specific intervals, and tie colored string to each, so they can be easily seen.Â
